Queen Ethelburga’s Celebrating GCSE Results Success
Queen Ethelburga’s (QE) is celebrating today following the announcement of the GCSE results for 2023, with fantastic results across the board.
Queen Ethelburga’s has two senior schools on their modern, well-equipped campus, which is close to York, Harrogate and Leeds, in Thorpe Underwood. This allows for a high level of personalised care and guidance for all students, and an innovative curriculum model to suit each young person.
QE Faculty and QE College have seen outstanding performances from students across both schools, their combined percentage of 7-9(A*/A) grades reaching 63%, and with all students achieving a broad range of qualifications across the curriculum.
Head of QE Faculty at Queen Ethelburga’s, Lauren Blakeley, said:
"All of our staff here at QE are incredibly proud of the results we have seen today from our GCSE students. This goes far beyond the results themselves, we are proud of every individual for achieving their own goals and aspirations. Success for our students at QE is more than teaching them to do well at exams – it encompasses embodying the values they will need beyond their time with us including resilience, confidence and respect. We are delighted to share in the delight of so many achieving what they had hoped for."
Head of QE College, Steven Turner, said:
"Year 11 are such a talented group of students and we are so proud of their amazing results. At the start of the last academic year we launched a new whole school revision project where students were introduced to the latest research and techniques regarding the most effective study methods. Our students really embraced this initiative and we have seen the impact in their outstanding results today. These excellent results reflect the ambitious nature of our students, together with the unwavering support of staff and parents. We are truly lucky to have such a superb group of students and look forward to seeing what they can achieve over the next two years in our Sixth Form."
Success Stories
- College student Tommy joined QE as a boarding student at the start of Year 10, adapting quickly to the challenges of life in the College, obtaining 12 grade 9’s at GCSE this summer. Not only is Tommy an outstanding academic but he is incredibly creative, winning the Key Stage 4 Drawing category at the ISA North of England Arts Awards.
- Erin joined QE as a boarder at the start of Year 7 and has been an exemplary student ever since. She plays the piano to a high level and has been an essential member of our backstage crew supporting school productions for several years. An outstanding all round academic, Erin has achieved 11 grade 9’s at GCSE.
- Maria joined QE at the age of seven and has been an outstanding student ever since, successfully achieving 11 grade 9’s at GCSE this summer. Maria is from Ukraine and an outstanding linguist, speaking four languages fluently. She enjoys sports at school and has been a regular member of our successful netball team.
- Rotola has flourished since joining QE Faculty in 2021. She joined us with the aspiration of studying medicine at University and today celebrates her first milestone towards that goal, achieving a fabulous set of results including 9-8 in Science and 8s and 7s in her other subjects. She has done this whilst also being a founding member of the Faculty Student Action group this year, shaping the school experience for her peers, and also showing her creative flair with her talents in photography.
- Gabriel joined QE Faculty on a one-year program for Year 11. He is an incredibly talented sportsman, representing Yorkshire at Rugby, but has also excelled at GCSE with 3 8s achieved in his first year with QE. We cannot wait to see him build upon this success and continue to show all that our PSP student-athletes are capable of achieving both in s and academia.
Giving congratulations on GCSE Results Day 2022, Principal, Daniel Machin, said:
"Credit goes to all our students for working incredibly hard over the past two years, to our staff for their continued support and exceptional dedication to teaching, and to all our parents and guardians for their continued support of QE. We look forward to seeing everyone return in the next two weeks for the start of sixth form!’
Today’s results are hot on the heels of an exceptional set of A-Level results last week, which saw a combined percentage of 79.4% A*/A grades at A Level, with the percentage of BTEC Distinction* and Distinction grades in QE Faculty, one of the two QE senior schools, reaching 76.2%."
