 International students can now complete the International Foundation Year programme affiliated with the NCUK at Queen Ethelburga's College.

Take the first step towards applying for subjects related to business or science at university by completing the International Foundation Year at Queen Ethelburga's. The one-year course will develop your subject knowledge and skills, as well as improve your English Language. 

The IFY is accredited by NCUK, a consortium of leading universities dedicated to giving international students entry to universities worldwide. You can choose either a Business or a Science pathway.

Business Pathway Modules

Science Pathway Modules (Any three of the following)

  • Economics

Depending on your English Language level on entry you will also complete one of:

  • English for Academic Purposes
  • English for Academic Purposes for Proficient Users
  • Research and Communication Skills

The International Foundation Year equips you with the skills and cultural experience needed to apply for university.
What Are The Entry Requirements?

We recommend that you are 17 years old and have completed the equivalent of UK Year 12 (AS Level). 

You should also:

  • Have an English language level of at least IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
  • Achieve at least the 25th percentile in the Verbal, Non-Verbal and Spatial elements in the CAT4 entry exam.

What are the course fees?

You will pay the equivalent of the Year 13 international fees.

What are the accommodation arrangements?

You will be accommodated in the Year 13 boarding houses, sharing an en-suite room, usually with two other students.

What are the Visa arrangements?

You must be aged 17 or 18 years at the start of the academic year.

Students aged 17 will be able to apply for a child student visa.

Students who are 18 years old on 1st September at the start of their course will require a student visa.
