Meet Emilia - Our New Student Motorsport Driver

Emilia is no stranger to racing or the CityCar Cup. At just 16, she swapped her ballet shoes for racing boots after being inspired by a documentary featuring female racing driver and Formula E team principal, Susie Wolff. Her motorsport career began in karting before she joined the Castle Combe Hot Hatch Series in 2021, where she impressively finished second in class. She continued with the series into 2022 before stepping into the Student Motorsport Challenge in 2023 with Wiltshire College, securing a podium finish at Brands Hatch. In 2024, she competed in the CityCar Cup Championship, finishing an outstanding 15th overall out of 44 drivers—remarkably, as the only female competitor on the grid! |
Championing Women and Girls in Motorsport
Helen Snuggs, QE Motorsport Team Leader, expressed her enthusiasm about Emilia’s arrival:
“We are very pleased to have Emilia join QE Motorsport. We have a good mix of male and female team members, so to have Emilia is just fabulous. We are looking forward to drawing on her wealth of experience both as a driver and with her engineering knowledge and expertise. Exciting times ahead!”
Emilia herself is equally delighted to be part of the Student Motorsport Team at QE, saying,
"I am really looking forward to the journey with the students, sharing my passion and enthusiasm for the sport, and hopefully inspiring them—especially the girls—to get involved in motorsport."
As Team QE gears up for the 2025 BRSCC CityCar Cup Drivers Championship and Student Motorsport Challenge, the addition of Emilia promises to be a game-changer, further strengthening their drive for success.
Queen Ethelburga’s launched QE Motorsport in September 2022 as part of its commitment to offering dynamic and exciting extracurricular opportunities. The initiative took off when a team from Student Motorsport and Oxford Brookes University visited the school, bringing a kit to prepare a car and hosting a “Pit Stop Challenge” to demonstrate race car assembly. A group of 28 Year 12 students then worked closely with QE staff and Race Engineer Will Snuggs from WJS Motorsport Engineering & Trackside to transform a standard Citroën C1 into a fully race-ready machine.
Notably, QE became the first UK school to compete in the Student Motorsport Challenge. Their commitment and professionalism were recognised in December 2024 when they secured the Team Professionalism Award at the Student Motorsport Challenge Awards Evening.
