Esports Minecraft - Debut Season Dominance

Now the Minecraft season is coming to a close, I can tell you: it's been unbelievable. We have an incredible team. Support, engagement, teamwork, tactics, letting everyone play to their strengths? It comes absolutely naturally.

And wow they are good. Mr Sharma-Pay has worked tirelessly with them alongside amazing Year 13 coaches Mishka and Theresa on the after-school club on Tuesday to help everyone improve and hone their skills. We drew our first game. They were not satisfied with that. So they went ahead and won every single subsequent game. 7 games in a row. Some were tight, some were very tight. But Q-Esports came out on top every time. And then the season ended. The top 8 teams in the country qualify for a live final in London next Saturday. Q-Esports? We finished 3rd.

The Minecraft Esports team playing the national league.

A special mention to my captains Ihor, Carrie, James and Cody who have helped out immeasurably, staying behind after school to help the team train and offer tactical guidance, for supporting Emily in her journey as captain. When I told them that we'd finished third in the country and qualified for the national final, every single one of them cheered. James punched his fist in the air. Carrie started dancing. Every captain cares about every team.

The Minecraft team has such a wonderful personality. Hudson is the star man; I'd comfortably put him one-on-one against anybody else in the country and he comes out on top. A special talent. Lincoln is the heartbeat of the team, supporting and solidifying at the back. He simply doesn't let enemies get past him. Arthur is the best reader of the game by a mile; he spots movements and tactics quicker than I do, and I'm watching from a far better vantage point. He's also a lethal point man. Parker is universal; he can excel anywhere. A terrific all-rounder. Oftentimes his preferred place is up at the top with Hudson, looking for ways and means to score us an extra point. Owen is a lone ranger who loves excelling against the odds in high risk situations which benefit the team like you wouldn't believe... And then there's Emily. Our captain. This wasn't even a decision I made; several other players on the team came to me and told me they acknowledged her as the leader. She's in charge.

I spoke to her alone (okay, Carrie and Ihor insisted on being there: the anointment of a new Q-Esports captain is a rare event which they absolutely had to be present for) and told her that it was the team's responsibility to follow her instruction and that I don't want her to get disheartened if they ever didn't listen to her. Emily's response? "Oh no, they'll listen to me. Especially if I get cross with them."

Emily is 10 years old. The youngest member of the team. What do we put in the water at QE to create these astonishing individuals?
