Celebrating Anti-Bullying Week at Our Independent School in Yorkshire
At Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate, an independent school in Yorkshire, we are committed to promoting kindness, empathy, and understanding among our students. As part of Anti-Bullying Week, we were delighted to welcome Lottie Anderson for a day filled with education, inspiration, and fun.
Lottie has a condition called Misophonia (also known as selective sound sensitivity syndrome), a neurological disorder that causes strong emotional reactions to certain sounds. Her visit centred around raising awareness of invisible disabilities—challenges that aren’t always visible but can significantly affect people in social situations.
Raising Awareness Through ‘Sounds Like Lottie’
Lottie’s impactful presentation, ‘Sounds Like Lottie’, introduced students to her experiences living with Misophonia. She highlighted the importance of understanding and supporting those with invisible differences, a message that resonated deeply with our school’s values.
Our Student Equity Ambassadors had the opportunity to meet Lottie and record a short reel interview about her condition, sparking meaningful conversations about inclusion and kindness.
A Fun and Educational Experience at Chapter House
Lottie also visited Chapter House, our Junior School, where she spoke to younger students about invisible disabilities. To make learning engaging and memorable, Lottie worked with the students to create a catchy miming song about Miss – O – Phone – Ear. It was a fantastic way to combine education and fun, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved.
Promoting Kindness and Inclusion at Independent Schools in Yorkshire
At Queen Ethelburga's, we believe that understanding invisible disabilities is a crucial step in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. Lottie’s visit reinforced the importance of showing kindness and empathy to everyone, as we never truly know what challenges someone may be facing.
We are incredibly grateful to Lottie for her inspiring visit and for helping us mark Anti-Bullying Week in such a meaningful way. Let’s continue to champion kindness and inclusion every day.
